Photo: David Biddinger. Two species of bees (in the genus Osmia) are currently being used on a limited basis for tree pollination: the blue bee ( Osmia lignaria) and the Japanese bee ( Osmia cornifrons ). The latter was introduced by the USDA into the Mid-Atlantic region from Japan in the 1990s.
